phonic moves to La Cheetah to celebrate their first birthday with special live guest, Cosmic Force (Clone/Marguerita). Ben Spaander (AKA Cosmic Force) will be performing a very special hour’s fully analogue set.
During his live performances Cosmic Force only uses the pure sound of analogue equipment and chooses to leave his laptop at home, to emphasize his own unique sound. Cosmic Force began his musical career at the early age of 15. He first started making mix tapes with a cassette recorder and a turntable he borrowed from his mother. He then started to experiment with guitar stompboxes and effect processors, which he used on existing music. Attracted by the (at that time) upcoming hip hop/electro scene of the early eighties, he started his own hip hop crew TLD (The Lyrical Domain).
After two years of MC-ing he thought it was time to move on to something else. Influenced and inspired by these fresh hip hop and electro sounds combined with the more experimental music from Pierre Henri, Oscar Sala and Kraftwerk, he developed his own sound. The first Cosmic Force release was in 1996 on Clone Records and Ben successfully went on to found his own label, Marguerita Recordings.
Ben has collaborated with such artists as DJ Stingray, Dexter, Drexciya, Keith Tucker, Rude 66 & Beta Evers to name a few….

The days are getting shorter, the nights are getting longer and Halloween is upon us once again. With a wide array of themed events, activities and special nights taking place across Glasgow for 2010, there’s no shortage of chills and thrills to make the most of this year.
We at phonic are delighted to announce an afternoon/evening of audio adventure, courtesy of phonic & Animal Farm residents for a day-time Halloween special at the Halt 2 on Woodlands Road.
From 4pm until the clock strikes midnight, residents from both nights shall be showcasing the best in electronic delights to get your Halloween in to full thriller mode. Whether arriving in fancy dress or not, we are sure that by the end of the night, the creeps will certainly be out in force…

Animal Farm was formed 6 years ago by Darren Quail, Charles Turtle & Chris Lamb. Since their humble beginnings in the West End’s Halt Bar they have quickly progressed through the Glasgow Club scene now holding a residency at the infamous Sub Club.
Along the way they joined forces with ‘Off The Record’ promoter Ronin, where they collaborated on the OTR project @ the Soundhaus until they called time on it in 2009.
Past guests at Animal Farm include Sandwell District, Brendon Moeller, Marcel Dettmann, Ben Klock, Slam, Mike Huckaby, Mark Broom & Mark Henning. Animal Farm have always pushed local talent from in and around Glasgow, showcasing the rich musical depth the city has to offer. 2010 has been a busy year with various Sub Club events, after parties for Soma Records and themselves plus a weekly 2 hour slot on Subcity Radio (upcoming guests : John Daly, Vainqueur, Oliver Deutschmann, Luke Hess & Kenneth Christiansen).
